Measurement Invariance Testing with Mplus

To see dates and times see the calendar shown below

This training begins with a 45-60 presentation on the importance of establishing measurement invariance (MI) in applied research. This is followed by a detailed training on techniques that are typically applied to establish MI. Finally, there are demonstrations of how to use Mplus to test for MI using a variety of different approaches (the classic, convenience features, and using areas of local strain) to draw conclusions regarding MI or bias.

  • Specific analyses covered include:
    • Multigroup analysis
    • MIMIC models
    • Testing for comparability of factor loadings and item intercepts/thresholds
    • Over time invariance (for longitudinal data)
  • Continuous and categorical indicators

This training is best suited for those with some understanding of factor analysis and

measurement properties. For those who need background information on Mplus syntax, model fit, identification issues, and factor loadings/intercepts, the first workshop (Introduction to Latent Variable Modeling) is recommended.
